Delta Systems Converts to more efficient, green LED lighting

Benefits

The financials motivated Delta Systems to move forward with this upgrade and retrofit project using Energy Focus’s LED lamps. However, they were also satisfied by the improved light quality and health benefits. One reason that Matt Mohler, the facilities manager at Delta Systems, did this LED retrofit project; was because of lighting quality issues. He felt that some areas of the facility were either over-lit or under-lit. Since the use of Energy Focus’s linear lamps, that has no longer been an issue. Mr. Mohler, in his own words, stated that “the yellow hue you typically get from fluorescents is now gone. With Energy Focus’s LED’s, we now have more of an even and clean light.” What we believe to be the most exciting part of this success story, was when Matt added that some employees complimented the lights by saying that they no longer have “eye-fatigue.”Health benefits are often overlooked. The reason that the employees no longer feel “eye-fatigue” is that they are no longer exposed to color spikes emitted by fluorescents. These color spikes can disable the brain from processing colors properly, and will, in turn, cause one’s eyes to feel tired. This reaction to color spikes is known as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, or SSS. SSS can cause eye-fatigue, headaches, and blurred vision.Additionally, UV rays emitted by fluorescents can potentially become a factor for an increased incidence of cataracts. Cataracts is a clouding of the lens inside the eye, which leads to a decrease in vision. It is the most common cause of blindness, with 24 million Americans suffering from cataracts today. It is expected that by 2030, 38 million Americans will suffer from cataracts, and that number will increase to 50 million by 2050. By removing these fluorescents for Energy Focus’s LEDs, you can turn your workplace into a healthy environment, while benefiting from savings.
